Aztec Highland Games & Celtic Festival
Riverside Park - Aztec, New Mexico October 6-7, 2012
Celebrate the culture of the Scottish Highlands with an American Southwest twist!
This event is held in Riverside Park, along the beautiful Animas River in Aztec. Join us for two days of live Celtic music! Local bands will play to the delight of the crowd as they pay homage to the Celtic traditions. Events will include a series of physical competitions by professional athletes, including the Caber Toss, Hammer Throw and the Foot Race. There will also be Scottish Dance Exhibitions, Bagpipe Band Exhibitions, children's activities, Clan Tents, food and merchandise vendors, and local beer and wine. Robert Burns Night saturday January 28th 6pm. SJSFS world headquarters 121s main Aztec. Music, Dance, Poetry, Pipes. Stout meat pie, neeps and tates, cranachan and of course Haggis.
$20 donation at the door, $10 for kids, under 10 free. This is not a potluck, but if you can, please bring some scottish shortbread to share.

Highland Games Practice Local Four Corners athletes are looking to start a Celtic Heavy Athletics Association so they can train for the annual games. Their first meeting/training session is this Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Riverside Park, Aztec at 2:00 pm. If you want to compete at some point or just want to try your hand at the sport, please attend!

Dance (from Maria Blair in Durango)
There are two dance classes I would like to teach. I’ve had a number of people express interest in learning Scottish Country dancing, ceilidh dancing, and step dancing. That is one class I would like to teach – it would run for 6 weeks and require a minimum of 8 people. The other class is for a specific Ladies Scottish dance called The Bluebonnets Over the Border. It is a mix between ballet and highland dancing. It is a pretty performance dance for women.
I’ve looked at the Dance Center’s studio schedule, and there are two times that I can make work. Sundays at 4pm and Fridays after 6pm. If you are interested in either the social dance class (Scottish country dancing/ceilidh dancing/step dancing) or the Ladies Scottish dance, or both, would you please reply to this email and tell me if either Sunday or Friday work for you so I can reserve the space and we can start dancing. MONTHLY CEILIDH
We will be organizing a monthly Ceilidh from June thru September to raise funds and awarness for the Celtic Festival and Highland Games in October here in Aztec.
These ceilidhs will feature celtic bands that will be playing in the Festival.
